After Hours Dispatcher – Contracted

CARE Ambulance is seeking a reliable and professional independent contractor to provide after hours dispatch and call coverage services. This contracted remote position requires strong communication skills, dependability, and the ability to remain responsive during contracted coverage periods.

This is a contracted 1099 position and is not considered a W2 employee position. Contractors are responsible for providing their own phone, internet service, and work environment.

Services May Include:

  • Providing after hours phone coverage for incoming calls
  • Responding to calls during contracted coverage periods between 1600-0800
  • Coordinating transports and communicating with ambulance crews
  • Communicating with hospitals, nursing facilities, and callers professionally
  • Monitoring active transports and relaying information as needed
  • Verifying insurance information when requested
  • Providing transport quotes and general service information
  • Documenting call and transport information accurately
  • Assisting with general after hours operational communication needs

Contractor Requirements:

  • Must maintain reliable phone and internet service
  • Must remain reasonably available and responsive during contracted coverage periods
  • Calls may be forwarded to contractor’s personal phone during coverage periods
  • Strong multitasking and communication skills required
  • Prior dispatch, EMS, customer service, or medical office experience preferred
  • Must maintain confidentiality of protected health information
  • Contractor training/orientation is completed in person in Iowa City, Iowa
  • Additional contracted in house coverage opportunities may occasionally be available

Work Environment:

  • Fully remote/work from home contracted position
  • Contractor provides their own equipment and workspace
  • Must maintain a professional and distraction free environment while providing coverage services

CARE Ambulance is looking for a contractor who can communicate effectively, remain organized under pressure, and assist in maintaining smooth after hours operations.
